When talking about editing and processing images, the term 'masking' refers to the practice of using a mask to protect a specific area of an image, just as you would use masking tape when painting your house. Masking an area of an image protects that area from being altered by changes made to the rest of the image.

As we travel and capture those amazing images this summer--and our beautiful state has opened up--there may have been moments that, after coming back home to our studios and looking at that image on our computer, we find an unwelcome object. Ugh! Perhaps a bottle, boot or bear has wandered into our line of sight (well, if it was a bear, you have probably taken off). However, all this to say, let's talk about masking those items out and get the picture you had seen in your viewfinder.
