June 2017 Meeting
Randy Nyhof: My Journey in Fine Art Photography
June 21, 2017 at 07:15 PM
Randy Nyhof's presentation will take us on his journey from painting on canvas to producing fine art photography. He will share with us his approach to photography as a medium for making images.
Randy says, "The camera is a tool, much like a paint brush or chisel. I do not wish to, nor can I reproduce reality. I must be content to make an interpretation of 'what my eyes see and my mind envisions.' One learns to look and see within the capabilities that the camera and the computer can accomplish."
Randy will also share with us how his perspective has developed over the years to where he is at today. He will also give information on how and where he sells his images online.
Randy's photographic subject interests include landscapes, seascapes, wildlife, people, fine art, abstracts, surreal, fantasy and digital compositing.

Randy Nyhof Biography
As a student at Calvin College, majoring in painting and printmaking, Randy became fascinated by and took up photography in his junior year. Photography was not offered as a subject at Calvin in the late 60’s and early 70’s, so fellow students interested in the medium came together to exchange ideas and critique one another’s images. To enhance his photography education, he also read as many books on the subject that were available at the time.
Randy have been involved with different aspects of photography both commercially and artistically for more than 40 years. At first to produce fine art, along with his painting and printmaking. Eventually he became involved in commercial, wedding, and senior and family portrait photography, as well as producing underclass and elementary school photographs.
Inspired by the development in digital technology, Randy returned to producing fine art images, and subsequently has entered regional, national and international art shows and contests. He has been presented with a variety of awards and his works have been published in numerous publications, including Popular Photography, Photo Life, B&W/Color Magazine, Focus Magazine, Photoforum’s Best of Photography and Trierenberg Super Circuit of Austria.
